Homesite Clearing FAQs

Common questions about clearing for construction

Homesite clearing typically costs $2,000-$12,000+ depending on vegetation density and total area cleared. Light brush, 1-acre site: $2,000-$4,000. Moderate brush, 2-acre site with driveway: $5,000-$10,000. Heavy cedar/brush: $8,000-$12,000+. Most homesite projects (building pad, septic area, driveway) run $5,000-$8,000. We provide exact quotes after seeing your property.
Minimum clearing typically includes: Building pad (house footprint plus 20-30 ft on all sides for construction access), Septic/drain field area (check with your septic installer for required space), Driveway from road to building pad. Total is usually 1-3 acres depending on house size and driveway length. Some owners also clear defensible space (100+ ft) in fire-prone areas.
Absolutely. We regularly work around trees the landowner wants to preserve. Mark the trees you want to keep (flagging tape works well), and we'll clear around them. Keeping large oaks or pecans for shade near your future home is common and recommended - mature trees add significant value.
Forestry mulching grinds vegetation into small chips (2-4" layer) that remain on the ground. This mulch decomposes over time and helps with erosion control. For the building pad itself, mulch isn't a problem for most construction - the foundation contractor will work through it. If you need bare dirt (for specific foundation types), we can discuss options.
Texas is generally landowner-friendly for clearing your own property. However: Some cities/counties require tree removal permits for large trees. Subdivision deed restrictions (HOAs) may have rules. Clearing near streams or wetlands may need permits. Environmental reviews may be required in some areas. Check with your county before starting, or ask us - we know the requirements in areas we serve.
Most homesite projects take 1-3 days of actual clearing work. Small building pad only: 1 day. Building pad + septic area + short driveway: 2 days. Large clearing or long driveway: 3-5 days. We schedule the work and provide an estimated timeline with your quote.
